FURTHER derives its Objectives from the principles and practices that guided and shaped the life of an extraordinary human being who lived for others: FAZAL UR RAHEEM. His heart, from its first beat on 1 April 1926 to its last on 28 September 2010, was full of love for humanity and had no room for personal wealth or ambition. All he owned at the end of a long and productive life, save for a few old clothes and shoes, was the affection, loyalty, and respect of everyone who knew him. He lost his mother before he was 4, thus never knowing the most unconditional love, and yet gave freely of his love to all. He helped anyone in any way he could and served his country – first as a youth leader in the Pakistan Movement and then as a military officer and civil servant – with such steadfast honesty, integrity, and sincerity the like of which is unknown in Pakistan. He was a refined, broad-minded, large-hearted man from a small village who made no distinction among human beings based on caste, creed, colour, origin, or gender. Largely self-educated, he explored the arts and sciences in great depth and was widely acknowledged as an accomplished scholar and thinker. His grasp of history and poetry, in both Urdu and English, was second to none. He believed in universal education and healthcare and in keeping nothing for himself. He lived a simple, difficult life, full of struggles, and yet he made or saved the lives of many, influenced many more, and sacrificed all personal ambition for his family, friends, and humanity at large. It is from his spirit of altruism that FURTHER draws its Objectives and to which this Trust must always remain faithful by serving humanity through:
